In my teaching, I aim to foster students' natural desire to learn and grow by supporting their needs as described by self-determination theory. I support students' needs forĀ autonomy (feeling that they are learning something important and valuable to them), competence (feeling effective and capable with the material), and relatedness (feeling connected to others in the classroom). I try to make courses meaningful, engaging, and fun, and bring issues of diversity and inclusion to the forefront, even in courses where that is less obvious (like in research methods).
